He started collecting weather maps at 8 years old from the meteorologist Harry Volkmann. So, Volkmann identified his interest in meteorology with his father, Donald Hamernick, who was a musician. After collecting the world maps, he also studied them. So, he fulfilled his dream in 2002 when he became the first Chicago TV meteorologist. As a child, he was able to state elaborated statements about the weather forecast. He presented his forecasts to his family members and friends.

His biography

meteorologist mike hamernik was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 3, 1961. His father, Donald Hamernick, was a drummer for the Big Top. He graduated from Wisconsin Madison, attaining a degree in meteorology. He first worked with Weather Central, situated in Madison. Later on, he worked as a meteorologist for KGAN-TV and then joined the team at WMT-AM in 1992. Then, he became a well-known member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. At WGN-TV, he worked with many other well-known meteorologists, anchors, sports anchors, and reporters.

In 2010, he became an anchor for the morning weekend news and became a famous forecaster in Chicago. He had a step-sister named Kathleen O’Grady, and he was not married. Nobody even knows if he had a martial affair. He was an American meteorologist, 5 feet 8 inches taller.

He worked as a meteorologist for nearly 30 years and later began battling lung cancer. Although he was a non-smoker, he developed lung cancer. For nearly a year, he struggled with lung cancer and developed problems such as coughing, breathlessness, etc. He passed away peacefully in his residence in Chicago. He was the chief meteorologist of WGN and is greatly missed by the WGN family. For four to five weeks, he was struggling to survive, and finally, on March 10, 2021, he succumbed to nature. He peacefully died in his home at the age of 60 and is survived by his step-sisters, nephews, and nieces.

He was a distinguished forecaster as he performed his work diligently and was passionate about forecasting from his childhood. He learnt the techniques of forecasting even before he attained a degree in University.
